Denise Bourassa, DNP, RNC-ob, CNL, CNE is an Assistant Professor and Director of the MS Nurse Leader and Nurse Educator Tracks at the UConn School of Nursing. Dr. Bourassa is an experienced, nationally certified Clinical Nurse Leader and specializes in healthcare quality improvement, implementing and sustaining evidence-based practice at the bedside, and leading healthcare interdisciplinary teams during quality improvement projects. Dr. Bourassa is a certified nurse educator with ten years’ experience in nursing education at both the graduate and pre-licensure level.

Deborah Chyun, Ph.D., RN, FAHA, FAAN

Deborah Chyun, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN, is Professor and Dean Emerita, UConn School of Nursing. Prior to assuming the deanship in January 2018, she was the John W. Rowe Professor in Successful Aging and Executive Vice Dean at the Rory Meyers College of Nursing at New York University (NYU). During her time at NYU she also served as Director of the Florence S. Downs PhD Program in Nursing Research and Theory Development. Prior to NYU, Dr. Chyun was Program Director of the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing Program at Yale University School of Nursing, where she was on the faculty for 21 years. With a PhD in Chronic Disease Epidemiology from the department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale University, Dr. Chyun has led interdisciplinary research teams, most notably as co-PI of the industry-sponsored Detection of Ischemia in Diabetics (DIAD) study and has developed a research program focusing on cardiac-related outcomes and quality of life in older adults with type 2 diabetes. She has published extensively, was former Associate Editor of Nursing Research and had many national and international presentations. Dr. Chyun has also served as PI on several international projects aimed at workforce development and mentoring of doctoral students. Dr. Chyun has extensive experience in training and mentoring health professionals in the United States, as well as internationally. She has chaired or served on more than 20 PhD dissertation committees, as well as serving as master’s thesis advisor for 43 students at Yale. At NYU she served on the Executive Committee of the Master’s of Science Clinical Investigation Program at the NYU-Clinical Translational Science Institute and as co-director of the KL2 post-doctoral program. Dr. Chyun has held leadership positions in the American Heart Association, most recently as Chair of the Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing.

Kristin Berghoff, DNP, RN, CNL, CNE

Kristin Berghoff is an Assistant Clinical Professor within UConn’s School of Nursing. Certified as a Clinical Nurse Leader and Nurse Educator, Dr. Berghoff brings a proven record of best-practice knowledge within the spheres of learning science, adult learning, and change management into her course curriculum.
As a nurse leader, Dr. Berghoff is skilled at cultivating confident nurses equipped to lead. She seeks to instill in her students the knowledge needed to drive effective leadership, hone the skills to collaborate across varied practitioner settings, and highlight teaching and leading as a deliberate practice requiring ongoing reflection, learning, and continuous improvement. By fostering these pivotal qualities, Dr. Berghoff aims to empower nurses to address contemporary healthcare challenges through innovative strategies.
