Shaping the Next Generation of Nurse Administrators
30-credit Online Nurse Leader - Master of Science Program for RNs

Many of today’s practicing nurses are eager to explore innovative options to advance their careers. UConn’s new Nurse Leader online master’s degree program will prepare baccalaureate RNs for career advancement in the increasingly important roles of nursing leadership and administration.

This advanced nursing practice specialty area launches the career of nurses who want to develop expertise in nursing administration but who do not want to become an advanced practice nurse (APN) serving a specific population.

UConn Online Nurse Leadership Master's Degree ProgramA nurse leader is a nurse who excels in their career path by providing administration in healthcare organizations. Those choosing the Nurse Leader concentration choose indirect care roles or focus on areas of practice at the aggregate, systems or organizational level. Nurse leaders include seasoned nurses or healthcare administrators who are interested in refining their leadership skills. Nurse leaders are key to an organization’s success and directly impact many front-line caregivers and healthcare workers.

The Nurse Leader - MS in Nursing online degree program will prepare you to:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to lead in the appropriate healthcare setting.
  • Collaborate in and lead interprofessional teams to improve healthcare systems and client healthcare outcomes.
  • Develop personal goal-setting for professional development and life-long learning.
  • Become nationally certified by the American Organization for Nurse Leaders (AONL) as either a Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML) or Certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP).

Note: For those who may want to pursue a DNP degree in the future, two courses in the MS concentration can be applied toward UConn’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree.

The Nurse Leader - MS in Nursing online degree program only accepts students for a fall semester start. Please submit materials no later than April 1 to begin the following fall semester. The fall application opens mid-September of each year.
